River in northern Lappland. Originates from northern Lappland near the border to Norway, in the area surrounding the mountain Kebnekaise. Runs straight east until it converges with river Tärendö älv, that connect river Kalix älv with river Torne älv. From here it flows straight south until it flows out into the sea Bottniska havet at the city of Kalix. 430 km long. Fishing for grayling, brown trout, white fish, char, pike and of course salmon. Some of river Kalix älvs tributaries: River Kaitum älv, Ängesån river, river Tärendö älv, and Narkån river. When fishing near Kalix: The fishing in the archipelago outside Kalix can be worth trying, here are excellent fishing possibilities for both pike, salmon and sea trout. Salmon arrives in late May and has its peak weeks around Midsummer. At the beginning of the season there is good fishing downstream Jockfall, at Orrforsen, Kamlungeforsen, Räktforsen, the rapids of Ansvar and Narken. After midsummer, the stretches above Jockfall are filled with salmon. Most famous is perhaps salmon fishing around Jockfall, where the river narrows and forms a mighty waterfall.
